Welcome to the Plaza

The new Downtown Berkeley Plaza is in the heart of the City, and is an important transit hub servicing the Bay Area.

The Plaza has just undergone a $13M renovation, including a new main entrance, new plaza pavers, a sound and light poles/system, catenary lighting, as well as new trees and landscaping.

Additionally, the new plaza boasts a large open space with bistro tables and chairs, a ‘state of the art’ ambient sound system, programmable lighting, and amazing locally sourced public art.

The programing of the plaza presents a once in a generation opportunity to establish a vibrant pubic space that is welcoming and engaging for all Berkeleyans and visitors. It’s a place to showcase the creative and artistic soul of the City.

The Plaza Activation Plan was developed by the Downtown Berkeley Association in close association City of Berkeley staff, Civic Arts Commission, and in consultation with Mayor Jesse Arreguin and Councilmember Kate Harrison. We hope you come and enjoy the plaza as it was intended and let us know what you think.
